Half Price Books, or HPB, a mainstay in Berkeley’s bookstore scene, will be closing Nov. 30. The store’s Berkeley location has been on the corner of Shattuck Avenue and Addison Street for the past 20 years.
Emily Bruce, HPB public relations manager, said in an email that although HPB wished to stay in the area, the store was closing because it was unable to reach a lease agreement with its landlord that could “offset” declining foot traffic.
“It’s horses—t that (the store) is closing,” said regular customer Matt Joss. “Half Price Books is the best bookstore I’ve ever seen because they take care to curate a fantastic book selection.”
