Coach. Colonel. Warrior. Patriot. 🏒🇺🇸 Rough Rider Hockey’s own goalie coach, Coach Simms, is more than just a mentor on the ice. He’s a retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, decorated with the Bronze Star with Valor 🎖️ (awarded for heroism in combat) and the Purple Heart 💜 (awarded for being wounded or killed in action). Over 23 years of service to our country, he completed FIVE combat deployments before retiring in 2020. (For context, most service members complete one or two deployments in a career. Five means repeated time in high-risk, high-stress environments—sacrificing years of comfort, safety, and family life in service to our nation.) Now, he’s skating with purpose as a member of the Columbus Warriors—a newly formed team competing in USA Hockey’s Warrior Hockey Division, which supports injured and disabled U.S. veterans through the game they love.
