I am horrified by the news coming out of Gaza. Food is a human right here and around the world, and I am terrified at the thought that thousands of aid trucks are being blocked at the border. This isn’t the first time Israeli leaders have used food as a weapon despite this being a war crime under Article 54 of Protocol 1 to the Geneva Conventions. Israeli officials have counted the calories of Palestinians in Gaza who have lived under a brutal siege and blockade since 2006. We are watching a genocide unfold. Netanyahu’s latest actions are only the latest in decades of cruelty. Canada must demand justice. The international community must come together to find a way to get aid to the people in Gaza before this situation escalates into a famine.
