The world's oldest marathon runner Fauja Singh has died in a road accident in India at the age of 114. The British athlete—believed to be the oldest person to complete a marathon—was hit by a car and suffered fatal injuries while trying to cross a road in his birth village, Beas Pind, on Monday. Singh earned the nickname ‘The Turbaned Tornado’ after taking up marathon running in his late 80s, following the death of his wife and son. ‘Running showed me kindness and brought me back to life by making me forget all my traumas and sorrows,’ he told CNN in an interview at age 102. He went on to complete nine 26.2-mile races. Guinness World Records described it as an 'inspirational achievement' but said it was unable to recognize the feat without the necessary proof of his date of birth.
