The Chapel Hill Town Council is making progress on developing the Greene Tract, meeting in June to rezone part of the site. Jointly owned by Orange County and the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, the 164-acre parcel of land is located off of Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill, near the Historic Rogers Road Neighborhood. The local jurisdictions purchased the land in 1984 and are now working to create a mixed-use site. “Please and thank you to staff, and to Carrboro, Orange County, and all our partners for continuing to move the Greene Tract forward,” Chapel Hill Mayor Jess Anderson said at the June 18 Town Council meeting. The unanimously approved rezoning and text amendments will allow for “by-right” development on the property. The effort will allow town staff to review future development applications for compliance with the Chapel Hill’s Land Use Management Ordinance (LUMO) standards, avoiding additional zoning approvals by the council.
