For the last five years on my birthday, I have challenged myself to recreate a shoot I did right before quarantine started in 2020, and since this is the fifth anniversary, I decided to finally share this year’s self portraits- every year, I have to recreate the original portraits I took- the stipulations being a) I have to add a new element, b) the concept has to evolve with the element added, c) I have to use whatever I also used every year previous, and d) I have to shoot and edit it the week before my birthday. I’ve always been stubborn about change but not about the growth of my work, and the biggest indication of time passing is our birthdays, so I wanted to mark every year of growth in my art and my life in this way.
