If you were awake late Monday night in central or southern California and happened to look outside, you may have noticed this streaking across the southwestern sky: the re-entry of a Space X Dragon capsule shortly before 2:30 am. It was a spectacular sight that took almost one minute to travel across the southern sky. Shortly after this, the 4 astronauts on board safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off of Southern California.
Space X recently moved all of their Dragon capsule splashdowns from off the Florida coast to off of the California coast, which means we’ll see more of these streaks in the sky from now on. Space X has been doing 6 Dragon capsule splashdowns per year over the last couple of years, so it’ll be about one every 2 months or so.
The next splashdown is scheduled for this Fall.
