Hissssssen, we know not everyone is a fan of snakes, but it's
#WorldSnakeDay so we wanted to share about one of the fascinating species we work to protect.
The docile, nonvenomous eastern indigo snake is known for its lustrous, blue-black body; and for its large size, as long as 7 feet from nose to tail, which makes it the longest native snake in the United Snakes 🐍 ... we mean, United States.
These beautiful serpents are among the many species the Center works to protect.
Fun fact: The eastern indigo snake's scientific name Drymarchon means “lord of the forest.” Whether or not you enjoy snakes, we think that's a pretty cool name.
