Scottie Scheffler's press conference ahead of the 153rd Open Championship took a bit of an unexpected turn on Tuesday as the world No. 1 discussed wrestling with the importance of winning and living a life of fulfilment.
"This is not a fulfilling life. It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart," the three-time major champion shared.
"Why do I want to win the Open Championship so badly? I don't know because, if I win, it's going to be awesome for two minutes." Scheffler continued, "This is not the most important thing in my life. And that's why I wrestle with, 'Why is this so important to me?' because, you know, I would much rather be a great father than I would be a great golfer."
The Open tees off Thursday from Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
