For the first Film Friday of 2025 I’m sharing a handful of medium format photos I made last fall at The Sea Ranch. The Northern California community was established in 1964 with a vision of blending architecture and nature, and has become a worldwide destination for fellow lovers of good design and the great outdoors. Known for its iconic minimalist homes made from natural materials, the community was designed to preserve the stunning coastal environment and create harmony between people and the land.
With somewhere around 2,000 houses spread across 10 miles of breathtaking coastline, The Sea Ranch is ruled by core design principles (and an aggressive HOA) that creates an inspiring ethos for seamlessly integrating architecture and nature into one’s life. The full immersion was powerful. After just a few days surrounded by redwood and cedar, trail running, swimming in the ocean, watching peeling waves in cove after cove, I never wanted to leave.
