Looking forward to hiking season by looking back at last summer’s family hike. It’s been nearly a decade since my dad and I began our annual backpacking trip. Over the years other uncles and cousins have joined. And it’s a highlight of my year without a doubt. In the above image a faint thunderhead cloud can be seen in its early stages forming atop Mount Jefferson. Little did we know at this moment that the hike back to along the PCT and the subsequent bushwhack back our campsite would become a sprint to avoid being caught by the lighting and rain. But isn’t that part of the fun of hiking? And most of the fun of photographs? You never know what the future holds or just what spirit a moment can capture.
