The White Bear Lake, MN train station was a key stop on the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad (later part of the Northern Pacific Railway) and played a significant role in the area’s development as a popular resort destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
As automobiles and highways improved in the early-to-mid 20th century, train travel declined. The White Bear Lake depot was eventually demolished, and passenger service was discontinued.
Today, the history of the railroad’s influence on White Bear Lake remains a key part of its identity, with some remnants and historical markers still visible in the area.
