If it wasn’t for their quick thinking, care and persistence with getting me to the emergency room, there is a strong possibility that I would not be here today. Black maternal health is not just a conversation to be had for one week. It is an ongoing issue— and the mortality rate has always been significantly higher for black mothers. . . Ask all the questions, do your research, advocate for yourself (and have someone to do so if you can’t), listen to your body, and demand the thorough care you deserve.
