After a judge sided with UC Berkeley researchers in their lawsuit against the termination of research grants by the Trump administration last month, the federal government reinstated 160 National Science Foundation, or NSF, and National Endowment for the Humanities, or NEH, grants involving UC researchers by July 9.
Additionally, 25 Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, grants were set to be reinstated Wednesday. Among the restored grants, which amount to tens of millions in funding, are at least 13 NSF, seven NEH and five EPA UC Berkeley projects.
However, although Judge Rita F. Lin issued a preliminary injunction June 23 requiring the reinstatement of the grants, the agencies appealed the decision July 10 and are seeking to have the injunction lifted.
