The Jumping Bomb Angels, the Japanese tag team of Noriyo Tateno and Itsuki Yamazaki, are remembered as groundbreaking pioneers who brought the fast-paced, hard-hitting “Joshi” style of wrestling to a mainstream American audience in the 1980s.
After becoming major stars and WWWA World Tag Team Champions in All Japan Women’s Pro-Wrestling, the duo came to the World Wrestling Federation in 1987. Their innovative, high-flying offense immediately got over with WWF fans. They famously were the sole survivors in the first-ever women’s Survivor Series match in 1987 and went on to defeat The Glamour Girls for the WWF Women’s Tag Team Championship at the inaugural Royal Rumble event in 1988.
Decades later, their influence can still be seen in the work of many modern women’s wrestlers. In recognition of their legacy, The Jumping Bomb Angels were inducted into the Women’s Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2025.
