FOUND 👀 Wellington’s Solitary Coral has been rediscovered after being lost to science for 24 years! 🎉
This striking Galápagos native was thought to possibly be extinct... but scientists were finally able to locate this tiny coral — just the size of a pencil eraser ✏️ — in over 250 colonies. Proof that nature still holds some of the best plot twists!
Most astonishing — many of these newly discovered colonies were far deeper than this coral had ever been reported. This suggests that Wellington’s Solitary Coral might be finding refuge in deeper, cooler waters as climate change shifts its historic home waters.
