From stage to sound, laughter to legacy, music to movement, #TheApollo pushed culture forward this Winter/Spring season❗ 🗣️ Community & Conversation We kicked off the year with a powerful staged reading of Ain’t No Mo’ on #MLK Day and Apollo Uptown Hall: A Burning House in collaboration with wnyc, diving deep into truth and change. 🎭 Theater We partnered with natblacktheatre and kiprepublic for “King Comes Home”, and made our utrfest debut with “Loss” by Trinidadian playwright iankamau. Apollo New Works brought bold readings and performances like martharedbone’s “Guardian Spirit” inspired by bell hooks, and “Jeffrey Manor” by tonyapinkins. 🎶 Music #ApolloMusicCafe brought the vibes with callmesahn, endeatheebassbae, orangejuliusmusic, fredyonnet and sister-duo theamours. saadiqmoves gave us a one-man, one-night, no-bandwidth moment, and thejasonmoran honored Duke Ellington’s 125-year legacy alongside gordonparksfoundation photography.
