Ahead of Father’s Day weekend—and my birthday—I want to share a few words and a few quotes I’ve heard recently: “I wish I was up there.” “In this time we’re living in… Black men who want to be present, being seen, getting a moment.” “Thank you for taking the time to do the work.” Over the past two weeks, I’ve found myself walking through Port Authority—sometimes to fix a sign I printed the wrong size, other times just to take it all in. This opportunity came to me through Mr. Myron Johnson. We were originally talking about headshots late last year, and this exhibit wasn’t even on my radar. The way it all came together still feels surreal, and I’ll share more on that story soon. But what stood out was realizing we’d been connected long before that conversation. As an artist, I had no idea what this project would look like when it finally came to life—or if it even would.
