Over a decade ago, I met photographer briansmithphoto at a book launch where he debuted Art & Soul. That night lit a creative fire in me. It showed me how photography can be both deeply personal and universal. This project is rooted in that same spirit. Through portraits and handwritten reflections, I asked over 20 fathers — some friends I’ve known since before we ever dreamed of having kids, others complete strangers — to share what fatherhood means to them. What came back was honest, raw, sometimes heavy… but always beautiful. In each interaction, especially with strangers, there’s a moment when the surface breaks — when the weight of being a father, a protector, a provider, reveals itself. As I installed these images, people stopped me to say how powerful and needed this work is. And I’m starting to feel that too. This is about more than just portraits. It’s a reminder: Black fathers are here. We’re active. We care. Not just for our own kids, but for our communities too. All ...
