1st Trans Tahoe Relay was one for the books! Not because we won, but because we almost didn’t make it past our first swimmer. Ok, so the way the race works is every person on your 6 person team swims a 30 minute leg and then everyone swims 10 minute legs until you get to the other side of the lake. The first swimmer starts on the beach and has to swim out past a certain point then your boat has to intercept your swimmer and start along the course. So here’s what happened - our boat was late. We scrambled and sent our lead off swimmer in a car to the beach start. When our boat finally showed up, it was 10 mins before the race started and we were 8.2 miles away from the intercept point and our boat topped out at 10mph… you do the math. Safety boats start scooping up swimmers who haven’t found their boat after the first 30 minutes so we thought our race was going to be over before it even started.
