Pick your priorities. In my first semester of college, I’ve been told that there are 3 things you can choose to dedicate your time to: tennis, education, and social life. But you can only be good at 2 of them. Choose wisely. Take your time. You don’t have to know what you want to major in right now. Take a bunch of different classes, see what sparks interest in you. Don’t rush into it, don’t panic. Allow yourself time to explore. Make friends. Your team will automatically become your community from day one. Still, I found it incredibly helpful to make friends OUTSIDE of your team and athletics. Talking to people in your class may be uncomfortable and new, but it will ensure you get a fuller college experience. Call your mom. Or dad. Seriously. I know life gets crazy when you’re a student-athlete, but I promise it’s worth it. At the end of the day, your family is the most difficult, but important connection you’ll ever foster. They will be your biggest support throughout your journey...
