After a well-earned breather following his third-place effort in the May 17 Preakness Stakes (G1), fan-favorite Sandman is back in action at Saratoga this weekend sporting a piece of new equipment—blinkers.
“Talking to Johnny [Velazquez] after the Preakness and to Jose [Ortiz] he maybe doesn’t engage quite as much as you’d like early on, so we’re going to try to keep him a little closer and the blinkers will do that I believe,” said dual Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse.
The son of Tapit is entered in the July 26 $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) at Saratoga, where he will look to improve against familiar foes Sovereignty and Baeza.
