The trick is simple: take any dominant scale and add a chromatic passing note between the flat 7 and the root. That extra note adds rhythmic balance and creates a true bebop sound. This becomes especially effective when descending the scale starting from the root. Suddenly, what was once a plain dominant scale becomes a swinging, voice-leading machine. 🎺 Bonus Tip from David Baker In his classic book How to Play Bebop, David Baker shares a great insight: many bebop players would add a small melodic tag or turnaround at the end of their lines to emphasize the dominant sound. So in this lesson, we combine the bebop dominant scale with one of those historical bebop tags to create a phrase that’s both authentic and modern. 📄 PDF Available in All 12 Keys, comment "guitar" and I'll send you the link! #jazz #piano #bass #trumpet #sax #guitar #guitarists
