Sun Valley is a family-oriented resort, and its terrain generally reflects that focus. On paper, it offers a wide range of green runs—including at least one beginner-rated trail off every chairlift—something that’s extremely rare, if not unheard of, at other destination resorts.
However, many of these "green" trails are steeper than what beginners might expect. In fact, several would likely be rated as blues at other mountains. This is especially true in the Seattle Ridge area, where most of the terrain is labeled green but can feel quite advanced for inexperienced skiers.
Beginners seeking truly gentle slopes should head to Dollar Mountain, a smaller and separate area. Its terrain is much mellower, and the green trails are far more accurately rated for those just starting out.
