25 years, 288 visitors, over 20 countries, 5 international partners, and one home. On Nov. 2, 2000, the Expedition 1 crew — NASA astronaut William Shepherd and Roscosmos cosmonauts Yuri Gidzenko and Sergei Krikalev — arrived at the International Space Station, making them the first to occupy the orbital laboratory. Two and a half decades later, multinational crews continue to live and work aboard the ISS, contributing science and research that will benefit humanity on Earth as well as future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
