Our Humble Hero
We remember and honor the life and legacy of Stanley Nelson — Pulitzer Prize finalist, journalist, author, historian and longtime cornerstone of the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication family.
The Ferriday, Louisiana native spent his career giving voice to the unheard and truth to forgotten stories — most notably uncovering civil rights-era injustices in his own community. His relentless pursuit of justice helped change minds, communities and the historical record itself.
As editor of the Concordia Sentinel, author of two books and a mentor to our students through the Cold Case Project, Nelson’s work was grounded in courage, care and unwavering strength.
We extend our condolences to his family, friends and all those moved by his extraordinary work. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of truth-seekers to come.
