Did yesterday’s mountain lion video leave you wanting more cute footage of wild cats in the United States? We’ve got you covered!
If you’ve ever glimpsed a Florida panther in its native habitat, consider yourself lucky — and thank the Endangered Species Act of 1973.

These stealthy, majestic predators once ranged from Texas throughout much of the Southeast. But hit hard by habitat destruction, hunting and vehicle strikes, they were in decline by the late 1960s. By the 1980s, there were fewer than 50 left in South Florida.
Thankfully, Florida panthers are protected under the Endangered Species Act, with 120 to 230 of these big cats now living in the wild. They’re not out of the woods yet, but we’re grateful they’ve made it this far.
