Aubie first graced a football game program in 1959, as Auburn hosted Hardin-Simmons in Cliff Hare Stadium on October 3rd.⠀ ⠀ Phil Neel, the artist who created Aubie, designed nearly every program cover from the 1950s until the mid-1970s. Aubie would regularly appear on the covers until 1976 before coming to life in 1979 at the SEC Basketball Tournament in Birmingham.⠀ ⠀ Neel passed away thirteen years ago today in 2012 at the age of 84. ⠀ ⠀ Neel's artwork was iconic and continues to be a nostalgic trip into the past for Auburn fans.
