Angry supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday January 6, 2021, in a chaotic protest aimed at disrupting a peaceful transfer of power, forcing lawmakers to be rushed from the building and interrupting challenges to Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory. Congress returned later Wednesday to resume their proceedings after the Capitol was cleared by law enforcement. Police used tear gas and percussion grenades to begin clearing protesters from U.S. Capitol grounds. Dozens of supporters of President Donald Trump breached security perimeter and entered the Capitol as Congress was meeting to affirm Joe Biden’s win.
