You don’t expect to find sharks at the edge of a power plant—but in Hadera, Israel, that’s exactly where large dusky sharks gather. Each winter, the warm outflow from a coastal power station creates a steady current that draws dozens of pregnant females. These sharks use the artificially heated waters to rest and conserve energy during the later stages of pregnancy—a strange and striking example of nature adapting to human infrastructure. We filmed this sequence for the BBC’s ‘Asia’ series, and it was one of the more technically challenging dives of the shoot. The current is strong. Visibility can vanish in moments. But with patience—and a few steady breaths—we found ourselves surrounded by these powerful, deliberate animals, resting in the swirl of warm water.
