Here's a cool, modern way to use the minor pentatonic scale over major chords, specifically over major Lydian chords (think Maj7♯11).
The idea is pretty simple. We use a specific minor pentatonic pattern starting a half step below the root of any major chord.
For example, if you play this pattern over a Cmaj7♯11 chord, you’d use the B minor pentatonic scale.
This pattern is one of my favorites, it reminds me a lot of how McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane applied pentatonics in their solos.
