For Jen,
#DisabilityPrideMonth means celebrating the fact that her disability doesn't limit her – it proves just how strong she is. 💪
After 13 surgeries and three fractures, Jen underwent a left leg, below-the-knee amputation in 2023. She graduated with
#servicedog Halani in May, helping aid in her recovery and empowering her to do things she hasn't in decades, including riding a bike, walking a 5K and playing with and walking Halani.
"I don't think of myself as having a disability, I think of myself as having so many abilities that have been dormant for a long time," Jen says. “I am stronger now than I ever knew possible!”
Soon, her 21st year as a teacher will begin – her first with Halani by her side – and she’s looking forward to continuing to share with her students about the resilience of the disability community, equipping the next generation with that powerful knowledge.
