On lap two of the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, while chasing down leader Rudolf Caracciola in wet conditions, Nuzolari spun his Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3 and fell back to sixth - it took him well over an hour and some misfortune for the runners ahead to regain second place, but some blistering pace put him in the lead by lap ten; after two hours of racing, ten seconds covered the top four.
Disaster struck Nuvolari in the pit stop phase on the next lap - as Brauchitsch, Rosemeyer and Caracciola all powered away, his Alfa Romeo mechanics had to refuel manually with fuel churns and a funnel; by the time he rejoined, he was back in sixth. 😫 Brauchitsch was now P1 and was pushing relentlessly...but so was Nuvolari!
