It was another clutch performance from England’s super-subs, with Michelle Agyemang saving the Lionesses from the brink of Women’s Euros elimination for the second match in a row with her 96th-minute equalizer against Italy.
The game looked certain to head to penalties when England was awarded a penalty in the 117th minute. Usual penalty stalwart Chloe Kelly’s spot kick was initially saved, but the Arsenal forward was quick to react and poked the rebound home to make it 2-1.
“I don’t think you’ll find a team in world football with more fight and more resilience than this England team,” defender Lucy Bronze told reporters after the final whistle.
The dramatic comeback sends the Lionesses roaring into their third consecutive major tournament final. They’ll meet a familiar opponent in Sunday’s showpiece in Basel with Germany and Spain facing off in the second semifinal on Wednesday.
