Good Day, Friends,
Here in Colorado, we continue making strides to reduce, reuse, and recycle plastic items. We look at the bottom of the plastic bottles, containers and jugs, and see the chasing arrows with the numbers, but, what do they mean?
Not all plastics are created equal, and unfortunately, the numbers don’t mean the item is automatically recyclable; rather, they refer to the type of plastic resin from which they are made. Some of those plastics carry more toxins than others, and our Friends at Eco-Cycle have catalogued them for us, so we can learn to identify which ones we should steer clear of, as we make our purchasing decisions.
✅ Better options:
#1 PET,
#2 HDPE, and
#5 PP bottles, tubs, jugs, jars, and clamshells.
❌ Avoid these:
#3 PVC,
#6 PS,
#7 PC/Other, and black plastics.
Let’s keep the
#PlasticFreeJuly trend going and always check to try to spot the difference between plastics.
