Ahead of her departure as Artistic Director of Soulpepper Theatre following seven remarkable years, it was revealed on June 16th that the Tankhouse Theatre at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts would be renamed to the “Weyni Mengesha Theatre”. Not enough can be said to shed an adequate light on the revolutionary and purposeful theatre, the renewed heartbeat of the beloved artist community, and the reclaiming of creative expression that have been fostered at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts since Weyni’s arrival seven years ago.
