The last person to see missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki in the Dominican Republic has now returned home to Iowa.
According to dailymail, Joshua Riibe cooperated with Dominican authorities for nearly two weeks as a person of interest in her disappearance. Officials have maintained that Joshua is not a suspect and has not been charged with any crime.
In transcripts reported by Dominican media, NBC, and Telemundo, Joshua stated that he and Sudiksha had been drinking on the beach, kissing in the ocean, when they got caught in a current. A former lifeguard, Joshua said he helped bring her ashore, then vomited from swallowing seawater. When he looked up, she was gone.
Sudiksha’s family has now asked authorities to declare her legally deceased. According to
#TheAssociatedPress, their letter states they do not suspect foul play but believe there is no hope of her survival.
Our hearts hurt and mourn for Sudiksha.🤍We send our condolences and strength to her parents ...
