By Jove, it's Jupiter! NASA's Juno spacecraft has been orbiting Jupiter since 2016, capturing views like this one of the gas giant's beautiful but chaotic atmosphere. In this image, enhanced coloring reveals Jupiter's belts and zones, along with the turbulent edges where opposing wind streams collide. JunoCam, the main camera aboard Juno, captured this photo of Jupiter's northern high latitudes during the spacecraft's 69th flyby of the giant planet. The original image was taken on Jan. 28, 2025, from about 36,000 miles (58,000 km) above the cloud tops. Citizen scientist Jackie Branc produced this final version as part of the mission's public image processing project. Image description: A high-resolution, enhanced-color image of Jupiter's swirling belts and zones, showing pale blue and dark orange stripes across the planet's northern hemisphere. Textured turbulence forms along the boundary zones, creating ripples in the gas giant's upper atmosphere. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SwRI/...
