This microphone listens with light instead of sound.
Based on single-pixel imaging, it can capture tiny vibrations on the surfaces of objects caused by sound waves and turn them into audible signals.
As long as light can pass through, sound transmission isn’t necessary. As a result, it could enable applications in scenarios where traditional microphones are ineffective, like conversing through a glass window.
