“The largest Strawberry moon for the next 18 years, aligns itself perfectly with the top of Ronald Reagan National Airport’s Air Traffic Control tower in the early morning hours of June 11th, 2025.
This type of strawberry moon, which is the largest we’ve seen since 2006, won’t happen again until 2043, so capturing this moment was quite important.
To be able to achieve this, I woke up at 3:30 AM to get down to the Potomac park to set up by 5 AM, so I could properly calculate the positioning and height needed to assure the moon aligned correctly as it descended on the horizon. To film this, I used my Sony Alpha I II with 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS because of the incredible dynamic range and resolution that the sensor provides.
I opted not to use longer lenses because it would have eliminated most of the foreground composition going beyond 400mm.” - Alpha ambassador drewgiggity 🌕👏
