We’re proud to announce Former TSU Tiger Football Quarterback, Leon Murray, as the official 26th Annual John A. Merritt Classic Honoree! From electrifying crowds in 1999 to earning JMC MVP honors, Murray’s leadership, grit, and Tiger pride made history, and this year, we’re bringing it all full circle. Leon Murray cemented his legacy at TSU in 1998, when he threw for 491 yards on 28-of-54 passing, including a massive 77‑yard touchdown against Murray State, and accounted for four passing touchdowns in a legendary OVC showdown. During the 1999 season, Murray ranked among TSU’s top passers, throwing 18 touchdowns that tied him for the leader in school history that year.
