A transgender woman incarcerated in Kentucky has filed a lawsuit against state for trying to end her hormone therapy. In a lawsuit filed July 14 by the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, Maddilyn Marcum, currently imprisoned at the Northpoint Training Center in Boyle County, argues that a plan to eliminate her access to gender-affirming hormone therapy in November violates the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments and will lead to "the denial of medically appropriate healthcare to treat a serious medical condition." Marcum has received hormone therapy since 2009 and has continued to receive the treatment since being imprisoned in 2016 following a m**der conviction in Kenton Circuit Court.
