Today is #InternationalOwlAwarenessDay, so we're highlighting one of our clients we think you should give a hoot about: Western burrowing owls. These little birds are so fascinating: They don't live in trees, and they're not nocturnal. They makes their nest underground — usually in abandoned rodent burrows — and unlike most owls, they're active both day and night. You have to admire a species that so stubbornly marches to the beat of its own drum. Unfortunately, due to human activity, these charming owls, which were once widespread in California, have disappeared from much of the state. We've been working for years to protect their habitat from urban sprawl throughout the Southwest and California, and to defend these birds' against all other threats too, from fracking to freeways.
