With celebrity chef Gregory Gourdet off to conquer New York, this would have been the time for his Portland restaurant, Kann, to fall in our annual restaurant rankings.
But after revisiting and reconsidering all 40 spots on last year’s list — plus a few dozen more — none stood out quite like Kann.
Yes, it can be difficult to get in (though not as hard as it once was). And yes, the prices can be high (we’re looking at you, $54 sausage spaghetti). But despite Gourdet’s absence, recent meals at this wood-fired Haitian restaurant have been as good as they’ve ever been, if not better.
