Noah Lyles got the better of rival Kenny Bednarek by 0.04 seconds in the 200m final at the USA Track and Field Championships when things got a little chippy between the two.
Lyles looked across his lane at his opponent in the final stretch, which Bednarek did not take too kindly to, shoving his compatriot in the back with both hands after crossing the finish line. The two then exchanged some choice words, but would not elaborate much about what was said after the race.
“It’s a respect factor. At the end of the day, he’s fresh. Last time we lined it up, I beat him, that’s all I can say. Next time we line up, I’m going to win,” two-time Olympic silver medalist Bednarak told reporters after.
The competitors both qualified for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo with their performance.
