Happy Founder’s Day, ASU! 🏫🔱
Let’s take a moment to rewind to the beginning. In 1885, John Samuel Armstrong, the grandfather of William (Bill) Polk Carey, introduced the legislation that established Tempe Normal School—the precursor to ASU. Then, on Feb. 8, 1886, the school welcomed its first class of 33 students in a small, four-room schoolhouse.
From those humble beginnings in Tempe, we’ve grown into the largest public university in Arizona, with multiple campuses, renowned colleges, and cutting-edge research centers. 🏙️🔬
