Today is the first day of Kwanzaa. The holiday runs December 26 through January 1. Each day represents one of Kwanzaa’s guiding principles which focus on family, community and culture, and a candle is lit each day.
Here’s a look at the seven principles and what each means:
Umoja (unity)
Kujichagulia (self-determination)
Ujima (collective work and responsibility)
Ujamaa (cooperative economics)
Nia (purpose)
Kuumba (creativity)
Imani (faith)
Habari Gani! Wishing you a blessed Kwanzaa!
