Industry leaders warn that proposed tariffs could severely disrupt global shipping, inflate vessel costs, and cause congestion at U.S. ports. CNBC spoke to Parash Jain, Global Head, Transport & Logistics at HSBC Global Research on Squawk Box Asia. ➡️ “A vessel built in US probably cost you 5 times more, and it takes about 3 times longer versus a ship built in Korea or Japan. So to that extent it's a non-starter and what you would see in a very near term, assuming the USTR goes through as proposed, you will see a chaos of epic proportion.” ➡️ “The import into the U.S. will hit the hardest, but if this tariff stays, will not rule out probably global trade declining in this year.”
