The 42nd annual Donkey Race kicked off in the Bavarian town of Hersbruck.⁣ The quirky German tradition features donkeys running down a makeshift track as their owners race to keep up with them… and some donkeys are more keen to race than others. ⁣ ⁣ Spectators cheered on from the sidelines and veterinary staff were also close by - on hand to help with animal welfare. ⁣ ⁣ Each race covered roughly 200 meters, with four donkeys racing at a time and multiple heats leading to semi-finals and a final. ⁣ ⁣ Donkey number 18, named Anton, took the lead to the finish line to claim the title. ⁣ ⁣ The idea for the race emerged in 1980 and was held in a different location, before being relocated to Hersbruck more than 30 years ago. ⁣ ⁣ #donkeydash #germany #bavaria #hersbruck
