The Miners win! ⛏️ Sussex County (44-31) pounded the Down East Bird Dawgs (29-45), 17-2, to sweep tonight’s doubleheader at Grainger Stadium, earning at least a split of the six-game road series. The Miners have won five straight contests and handed the Bird Dawgs their sixth-straight loss. Sussex County jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and then blew the game open in the top of the fifth. The Miners batted around and plated 10 runs in that frame. Sussex County tacked on four more runs in the seventh and finished with 15 hits. Ty Gilligan (pictured) reached base four times. The catcher went 3-for-4, scoring four runs and working a walk. The top of the order—Hunter D’Amato, Dom Johnson, and Mahki Backstrom—accounted for seven runs scored, six hits, and 10 RBI.
